Fight Labour's plan to axe staff at Brinsworth Library

Brinsworth’s new library faces an uncertain future after Labour’s Town Hall bosses have announced changes to the libraries in Rotherham.

Labour’s plans would pave the way for Brinsworth library to be run without professional staff on site.

Lib Dem campaigner Charlotte Carter said, “Staffed libraries are vital to our communities. They do more than just loaning out books. Many people use libraries to apply for jobs and benefits. Not everyone is lucky enough to have a computer or have the skills needed to access the internet at home.”

“Having a library close by with knowledgeable professional staff on hand is a necessity for our community. These changes are a slippery slope that place our library's future at risk" added Dr Adam Carter.

In Sheffield that the number of residents using libraries has plummeted since the council removed paid staff from many libraries.

Lib Dem campaigner and Brinsworth resident Cheryl Jones added, “We believe that this would be the wrong thing for local residents and that’s why we’ll be fighting these plans. We’re asking you to back our campaign against the changes.”

The formal council consultation is open and can be found by clicking here.
